I was watching an old episode of fashion file the other day and they were showing Zac Posen's Spring 2008 collection. I fell in love all over again and wanted to go back in time. Also I've been in Winnipeg all weekend (which has been fantastic) and it was plus 9 today! So lovely in fact that my mom and I opened the sunroof in her car and cranked the tunage. A few things came to mind whilst viewing McQueen's fall line: hounds-tooth, garbage bags, praying mantas, Harlequin, club kids, snakes, space, cars, diapers on head, beetle juice, insects- either way I was FREAKED out. The show visually blew my mind but I was genuinely scared. Alexander McQueen is a genius though. Genius I say!

On another note here are a few designs I've been working on. The dress is just the test copy out of muslin and I'm currently in the process of making the real one. The collar can be laid flat to not look so extreme but I think this looks pretty neat to. The top is a more casual version of the dress I made just to wear out and about. I love them 90 degree shoulders.

I'm just gonna guess I'm not the first one to use that clever title but Stella McCartney tore up the catwalk with her fall 2009 RTW collection, which debuted in Paris yesterday. The collection was classic McCartney with her beautifully structured and tailored garments and those to-die-for boyfriend blazers. I'm particularly obsessed with the leather boot legging combos, Egyptian detailed pants, and the blazer/jacket with the lapel going allllll the way down to the hem. Jeez those McCartney's are a talented father/daughter duo...

I wasn't going to bother looking at Victoria Beckham's 2009 RTW collection but I came across this amazing dress (specifically the shoulders) and was SHOCKED to see it was by none other then Posh Spice.

The rest of the collection was fairly posh-less but I found a couple more black beauties in the bunch.

I made this free standing, pleated collar and I love how it turned out. I wanted to play around with it a bit so I tried it on a few outfits on a mannequin and tried placing the collar different ways like lying it flat and standing it upright. I'm excited to wear it for realziez and perhaps dabble in creating more in different colors and fabrics.

On Friday I went to see Glass Candy play and it was great show. This was the third time I've seem them in the last year (they def think I'm stalking them...) and once again it was a fantastic show. A band I'd never heard of Night Jewel opened for them and they were really good. There music is kind of chill, and sway-ee with a disco, dreamy feel. Kirsty picked up the record and we've been enjoying it on the daily ever since. Oh yes and I bought a record player a few weeks ago which was very exciting. I found some gold mines at VV boutique including the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, a Tears for Fears album, the Big Chill soundtrack and a bunch more. Music really does sound better from a record player. It feels like your more a part of it. Like your in the band even. Anyways here are some pictures from the show!

I wore this bodysuit to the show that I recently bought and not only is it one sleeved (which I love) but it also has a nice, juicy shoulder pad.

Diggin' the fringe. Aw yeeeeeeeeee.

I then got inspired and thought I should have some fun with shoulder pads and I went to town at fabric land. So when you see me on the dance floor I will be the broad with the big shoulders. Aighhht?

It was for the grade 11 fashion show at Kelvin High School and I'm happy to say that I would still (probably) wear it. It's crazy to think that it's around four years old! Oh how time flies...

This editorial is from Vogue UK 2008 and I'm absolutely smitten over it. The shoot revolved around everything Road Dahl. Shot by Tim Walker this magical, imaginative ride features Tim Burton (who of course brought a few of Road Dahl classics to life), Helena Bonham Carter, Burton's partner in crime, and the beautiful model Karen Elson. It's a lot of photos to post but I couldn't resist. I feel like renting James and the Giant Peach now...

Yesterday I arrived back in my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. I was greeted by my dear mom and that magical -30 weather I grew up with. I've never lived anywhere else so this year I truly got that feeling of coming home for Christmas. I can't explain how good it felt to walk through my house. Not only was it so good to come home but also to a decorated home complete with a Christmas tree surrounded by presents and that wonderful Christmas tree scent. My dad wanted to make me a home-cooked, comfort meal so he made my favorite fried chicken, homemade fries, a delicious salad, and for desert homemade fudge by my mom. It's been lovely.
I'm also so excited, for the most part, to see everyone. Last night I went over to Lana's for some wine, catching up, and a well needed tour of her closet. There were some newbies and some oldies but nonetheless all amazing. We then went to Cafe 22 and met some buds there. Feels good to be home.
Yesterday whilst unpacking I opened a dresser door and was excited and curious to find these two beautiful bra type cami's inside:

I immediatly rushed over to my mom and asked where they came from and if I could have them. She said she found them while going through some clothes and they used to be hers. Anyways she gave them to me and I'm a happy, happy camper.
I'm also extremely looking forward to having my roomies back home. On Friday these two gems will be joining us here in Winnipeg:

It is indeed that time of year again! New years! Inspired my MT's most recent post I decided to do a little new years post as well regarding New Years Attire. Last year inspired by YSL Fall 2007 RTW I tried to recreate a sort version of this white tuxedo jacket:

This is how it turned out:

The sewing was horrible on it but the effect was there. I ended up just removing the lapels from one black tuxedo jacket I had and sewing them on top of a white jacket. I also rented this amazing sequined cap from Ragpickers which I wish I could have bought but it was, sadly, not for sale.

Now what to wear this year...?

These days my special someone is...homework. As I'm sure most students are feeling right now it's that time to hustle and get s*** done ( I gotta censor, mama Ateah reads this). Anyways for most of the weekend I've been a busy beaver working on my final illustration project. The project was to create a line of clothing inspired by one outfit by any designer from any season. I struuuugggled with what to choose but eventually decided on a Valentino number. I loved the capelets so much on the dress I knew I needed to use it. I gotta give Kirsty Reid some cred for coming up with the name La Cirque Noir. Anyways although I left it till the last moment I could I like how it turned out. Please notice the Lebanese Buns in which a couple of the models are rocking. I know what your thinking "HEY those are Swedish buns!" but you...are wrong. There Lebanese because they have dark hair. OK?

Together Marylouise Pels and Vanessa Giovacchini make up the creative due POSSO. They make music, art, dj and can now add design to the list. Posso The Spat is there first design project which consists of a small collection of spats. The definition of spats (according to dictionary.com) are "a short gaiter worn over the instep and usually fastened under the foot with a strap, worn esp. in the late 19th and early 20th centuries". Anyways they are beautiful and I would kill for a pair but my student budget cannot currently afford this sort of extravagance. The spats below are on my list of things I want so bad I would do unforgivable things to get list. The names are pretty crafty to.

I need to post this FANTASTIC photo shoot. I found it somewhere on the internet and fell in love. It's from Vogue Italy in November of 2007. The shoot was shot by Richard Burbridge and was simply, and appropriately, titled Silhouette. I loved it so much, and was on the prowl for some sort of new page heading, and used one of the photos for it. Feast your eyes and enjoy.

Why can't there be parties like this around for me to attend? Clowns, costumes, bathtubs, Dumbledore like characters, live band, dancing galore... the whole shabang! That was a special for the UK show Skins called the Skins Secret Party Special. Jason burned me the first season and I just started watching it today and love it so far. This clip is from 2007, I believe, when the show first aired. The show revolves around a group of friends and each episode focuses on one of the characters. I can't wait to watch the rest of the show... Also the band is Foals, in which I thoroughly enjoy, and if I do say so myself the band is quite easy on the eyes particularly the lead singer...

FINALLY we have a home. We moved into Mallory Place a couple of weeks ago and it feels great. Can't say I have ANY urge/want/need/desire to do anymore Ikea trips... but were here now and aside from a few boxes (mostly mine, what can I say I've accumulated a lot of raw goods in my days) were getting settled. Now to plan the house warming...

Found this photo on the SARTORIALIST this morning and I love it. The colors, the flow, the material...hmmmmmm. I found some material like the gray and black stuff and was going to make curtains out of it and possibly a dress of sorts and it was $30 bucks a meter. The prices of fabric soar HIGH in Toronto. You can bet your bottom dollar I'm going to be raiding, I mean RAIDING, Mitchells fabrics when I go home at Christmas.

Yesterday while waiting to take the bus to Ikea I got Ry P. to snap some photos of me whilst I tried to keep warm by spinning in my full, evergreen, fall frock.
On another note Toronto is starting to cool off, although today was quite beautiful, and I'm craving a new (but actually old) fur coat and/or vest. Any of these beauties should do the trick just fine I'd say!

In the past year or so I've developed a major thing for Tilda Swinton. I love her look and style. She hardly ever has a smudge of makeup on, except for the odd bright lip, and I think she's a true beauty. She's also almost 50 and has the most beautiful fare complexion and not a blemish or wrinkle in sight. I really can't say I've seen to many of her movies, except for The Beach, but I'm a huge fan of her. Heres some of my favorite photos of her. Enjoy!

I was reading Childhood Flame's recent post about her love for floppy hats and was reminded about a photo shoot I did. A couple winter's ago in good ol' Winnipeg my friend Kevin and I did a photo shoot around Winnipeg for a portfolio I was doing. I was wearing this big, lovely floppy hat that I loved. Unfortunately this summer I drunkinly left the hat on a bench whilst on the way to the Birchwood at Victoria Beach. Anyways here are a few photos from the photo shoot. I hadn't listened to Patrick Wolf in a while and he came up on my pod today. I forgot how much I like him. If you've never listened to him download a bunch and have a listen. My fav song is definatly child catcher. It's creepy but has a wicked beat. I also really liked this ad Patrick did for Burberry in 2007. Take a look. Also notice Agnes's hair. It's looks particularly beauty and makes me want to do a little chop chop of my own.

I'm also headin' to Hercules and Love Affair this Saturday at the Opera house. I'm going with Jason and a few fellow Winnipegers and I'm pretty excited. Last year a did a wee photo shoot with Brittnay Hildebrandt. It was for a fashion portfolio and it was a good time...actually a great time. I made that dress and I have to say that was the only time I've worn it but I hope to get some wear out of it this fall/winter. Perhaps it needs a shortening? Although I do love the long train and the hanging Grecian bit in the front so I'm not sure if I could go through with cutting her. Looking back at these photos I remember how freezing cold out it was when we took them. I think it was around Febuary in Winnipeg, Manitoba and one of these really cold, windy days with a beautiful sunshine which some how makes it colder. Anyways thank you again Britney for the shoot and I still wish the 1930's bathing beauty shoot could have happened this summer.

Oh yeah Jason is coming tomorrow at ten seventeen in the pm. Can't hardly wait.

Today is my boyfriend's, and one of my best buds, birthday. Happy birthday sweetheart. Wish I could be with you today. Well were in our new place yet but theres still quite a bit of work to get done. We don't have a kitchen yet and well...I feel like I'm camping. Oh well I suppose it's all in the fun of living alone. I'm also still waiting on a couple rolling racks which is turning into quite a problem. On the plus side we have a pear tree in our backyard and the pears are daaaaaammmn good.

I was in a second hand store a few weeks ago and came across this mannequin. The guy working said he didn't know if it was for sale or not but the manager was out and I could buy it...quickly. I was on the mannequin like white on rice and then out the door in a moments time.

My mom has arrived in Toronto and it has been truly lovely! We did a bit of shopping today at Eaton centre and Holt Renfew. I picked up this wool, 70's style, black and grey patterned coat which I love. I also tried on a couple pair of black baggy trouser pants at Holts which included a pair of Alexander Wang's and Alexander McQueens. Ugh they were gorgerous. Although the Wang's said "No size" which I assumed meant it was a one size fits all kind of thing which I thought was weird but I tried them on anyways. They were insanely tight and I was bummed that a pair of one size fits all pants were far to small on me. I was then informed from the nice sales man that "No size" actually meant size zero. Is that common knowledge?

My mom, aunt, and I also attended Dirty Dancing on Saturday night which was amazing. They used all the same great tunage from the movie and the dancing was indeed very dirty. The crowd went wild when Johnny said the famous "Nobody puts baby in the corner".

I bought this Elle 2008 autumn and winter collection magazine at Chapters the other week and I thoroughly enjoy it. It’s filled with beautiful photos, collages, full designers collections and is a visual feast for the eyes. It’s a fantastic magazine to get inspiration from for outfits, design ideas, and anything else involving creativity. I havn't done to much ship-shoppin' since my move to Toronto but I have bought a few pairs of shoesies along the way. The black lace up boots and brown oxfords are from la vv boutique, grey sneaks are from some store on Younge, and black zipper booties are from Zara. I have to say shopping at the vv boutique in Toronto is quite different compared to in Winnipeg. In Winnipeg your usually kind of the only young, hip, kid looking for hidden treasures and maybe theres a few other treasure hunters around. However in Toronto I found that I was surrounded by a large amount of stylin' babes on the hunt for some true gems. It's neat. Well anyways my mom is coming to visit from the peg this weekend so the lack of shopping I'm experiencing will hopfully be changed...Hooray! Can't wait to see me mum.

We were supposed to move into our place on Septmber 15 but there has been a bit of a delay due to some very precise craftsmenship from our landlord Paul. Paul is staining all of the hard wood floors and re-painting and such which will indeed be beautiful in the end but we want in Paul...IN! Doesn't he know how badly we want to put our new rolling racks to use?

I'm currently watching SNL and I was informed that Dov Charney (founder of American Apparel) has just been sued, for the fifth time, for sexual harrasment. Surprise surprise. Merrymaking At My Place

Well, well, well. It's been a while...a long while... since I've posted. I've just moved to Toronto with my pal and confidant Kirsty Reid and thought I would give my blog another go. A new city, a new home, and a new beginning. Kirsty and I are currently living out of our suitcases but move into our new place on September 15. I feel so lucky to have been able to find this beautiful historic, quirky, house in the jungle of generic high rises. Were going to be living on the second floor of this old house which has hard wood floors 2 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and bathroom. I'm so thankful we found this place because honestly we had been searching for so, so long and found absolutly nothing.

On Saturday I travelled to my most loved thrift store with a miss kirsty reid. It was a lovely day filled with thrifting, laughter, and blizzards (**note new fav blizzard: chocolate chip cookie dough WITH brownie pieces,, K is a genius...). This certain store was not at it's finest however I did manage to pick up a few gems. I got a nice collared multi colored striped t, a gray pair of trousers which are a thing of beauty, a number of scarves, and an old man sweater which is also pretty GREAT (ha.. kirsty..). I saw a dude trying this old man sweater on and I knew I had to have it so I prayed a little and hoped he didn't dig it as much as I did and turned out he didn't. I think he was turned off by the mock turtle neck, which was pretty gross, but I plan on doin a bit of snip snippin. no biggie. Anyways here are some photos of the purdy scarves. They are cute.

On a completly different topic I'm going to go back in time to the wild night of December 31, 2007. There was masks, there was dirty dancing, and most of all there was great pals. I FINALLY got a new camera and found these pictures on my memory card so come on with me and take a journey back in time...

I wanted to buy this beautiful head piece from rag pickers but it was only for rental. At least I got to spend one magical evening with her though...it was great. And she even called me the next day.

Ahhhhh! How glorious it was today to finnally be able to to whip out a classic summer esemble. My fav pair of black high waisted shorts, a light blue collared sleeveless shirt (unbuttoned very low....ai ai ai) and a handy little american apparel bandeau underneath. Seventeen days

In seventeen days I will be traveling to Thailand with one of my great lady friends Sara B. We leave for our adventure on May 1 and return June 9 (one day before my twentieth birthday and four days before hers). Words cannot explain my excitment. The beauty, weather, culture, food, beach, history, and...shopping. Oh the cheap, cheap shopping. I plan on buying an ourtragous amount of clothing, interesting knick knacks, and whatever other special items come my way... I also plan on changing my heritage via tanning while vacationing. I will return a black woman.
